Race 8 – 6 July 2023 – Mc Kenna Memorial race winner (Sunnyside Zeus).
Held in July every year, this race honors the contribution of National and Victorian Hall of Fame administrator Jack McKenna. The race has been won by some of the best stayers of all time. The distance changed to 595 in 2010.
Last year’s winner was Matt Clark’s Sunnyside Zeus. Kel Greenough has had major success with this race, winning it no less than three times with Often Imitated, Miss Grub and National Honor.
What a day to remember! On September 26, Sandown Park came alive with AFL spirit as we welcomed 400 of our favorite footy fans to our Club rooms! From thrilling handball competitions to celebrating the best-dressed patron, it was an unforgettable celebration of all things AFL.
Congratulations to our handball champ who took home $2000, and a big shoutout to our stylish winner who snagged $500!

Sandown Greyhound Racing Club has reaffirmed its commitment to local community support by continuing its regular contributions to various charitable organisations. Normally renowned for its thrilling greyhound races, the Club has made it a priority to give back to the community in meaningful ways.
Each Tuesday, Sandown Greyhound Racing Club prepares and delivers 200 meals to a local charity in Noble Park, ensuring that those in need receive nourishment and a place to socialise. In addition to preparing these meals, the Club provides two staff members who volunteer their time to serve the meals, making a significant impact on the lives of many.
CEO Adrian Scott said: “Helping others is part of being a community club. This is just one of the many ongoing initiatives that highlight our Club’s dedication to not only providing exciting racing events, but also actively supporting and uplifting the local community.
Through these generous acts of service and charity, Sandown Greyhound Racing Club continues to exemplify the spirit of community involvement and compassion”.

The Melbourne Cup for 2024 is done and dusted! A great night was had by everyone who was in attendance and at home tuning in.
We got to see 12 great champions of the past parade down the home straight including the all time great Fernando Bale.
Tess Kirsopp-Cole showed off her athletic prowess when securing victory in the inaugural running of the Sportsbet Invitational Mile. It was only a fine margin but she held off the boys in a time of 4:05.
The 2024 Group One Bold Trease was taken out by Ethanol Water. She won by nearly 4 lengths in her first Group Race victory.
But the star of the night was Explicit! He sensationally won the 2024 Melbourne Cup. He overcame the awkward box 6 draw and ended up running away from his rivals down the back straight after taking the lead through the first turn.

Race 9 – 18 November 2023 – Shootout winner – Big Energy
Ever since race caller Ron Hawkswell said “bang racing in the shootout” back in 1998 it’s been a very interesting race. It’s fair to say the Shootout was the first of its kind in concept and Sandown as usual becoming a trend setter for different racing.
Invented by Sandown Director Bob Smith with the entry fee race winner takes all concept, the race got off to a rocky start with not everyone getting on board. However, today it’s a very different story and purist from all forms of racing get on board for the big night.
It has been won some top-class speedsters. 2009 Velocette, 2011 Bekim Bale, 2013 Xylia Allen, 2018 Aston Dee Bee, 2019 Hooked on Scotch, 2021 Aston Rupee and the Greenough’s in 2022 and 23 with Woe She’s Fast and Big Energy.
Toongabbie Lodge is an all purpose greyhound facility built by the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club for rearing, whelping, education and adoption at the highest animal welfare standards. It caters for the full lifecycle of a greyhound.
