Friday 15 November 2024

Ever since race caller Ron Hawkswell said “bang racing in the shootout” back in 1998 it’s been a very interesting race. It’s fair to say the Shootout was the first of its kind in concept and Sandown as usual becoming a trend setter for different racing.

Invented by Sandown Director Bob Smith with the entry fee race winner takes all concept, the race got off to a rocky start with not everyone getting on board. However, today it’s a very different story and purist from all forms of racing get on board for the big night.

It has been won some top-class speedsters. 2009 Velocette, 2011 Bekim Bale, 2013 Xylia Allen, 2018 Aston Dee Bee, 2019 Hooked on Scotch, 2021 Aston Rupee and the Greenough’s in 2022 and 23 with Woe She’s Fast and Big Energy.
