RESPONSIBLE SERVING OF ALCOHOL
Sandown Greyhound Racing Club (5 June 2024)

Purpose

The Sandown Greyhound Racing Club (SGRC) is committed to promoting responsible alcohol service and consumption within our premises. This policy outlines our guidelines and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of our patrons and staff.

Legal Compliance

We adhere to all relevant laws and regulations governing the sale and service of alcohol in Victoria, including the Liquor Control Reform Act (1998) and the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) guidelines.

Staff Training

All staff involved in the sale or service of alcohol undergo mandatory RSA training and certification.

Training includes recognizing signs of intoxication, strategies for responsible alcohol service, and legal obligations.

Staff members are regularly updated on any changes to legislation or best practices related to alcohol service.

Identification and Age Verification

We require valid identification to be presented upon request for patrons who appear to be under the age of 25.

Acceptable forms of identification include driver’s licenses, passports, and proof-of-age cards issued by the Victorian government.

Staff are trained to recognize fake or altered identification and to refuse service accordingly.

Intoxication Management

We do not serve alcohol to individuals who are visibly intoxicated or impaired.

Staff are empowered to refuse service to any patron who exhibits signs of intoxication, aggression, or disruptive behaviour.

Alternative non-alcoholic beverages and food options are available for patrons who may need to moderate their alcohol consumption.

Standard Drink Measures

We adhere to standard drink measures to ensure accurate and responsible alcohol service.

Mixed drinks and cocktails are prepared according to standardized recipes to maintain consistency and moderation.

Promotion of Responsible Drinking

We promote responsible drinking practices through signage, verbal communication, and promotional materials.

Messages encouraging moderation, designated drivers, and alternative transportation options are displayed prominently throughout the premises.

Safe Transport Options

We encourage patrons to plan for safe transportation to and from our premises.

Information on local taxi services, public transportation routes, and designated driver programs is readily available to patrons.

Incident Management

Any incidents involving alcohol-related disturbances, violence, or accidents are addressed promptly and effectively.

Staff members are trained to de-escalate situations and to seek assistance from management or security when necessary.

We maintain incident reports to document and review any alcohol-related incidents for continuous improvement.

Community Engagement

We engage with our community to promote responsible alcohol consumption and to support initiatives that address alcohol-related harm.

We collaborate with local authorities, community organizations, and alcohol harm prevention groups to foster a culture of responsible drinking and safety.

Policy Review

This policy is reviewed annually to ensure alignment with legislative requirements and best practices in responsible alcohol service.

Feedback from staff, patrons, and stakeholders is welcomed and considered in policy updates and revisions.

By adhering to this Responsible Serving of Alcohol Policy, the SGRC is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons and staff.
