Victorian State Heats

8 August 2024

The Nationals represents a very unique series of racing and is considered to be one of the most exciting times of the year for Greyhound Racing in Australia as it brings together several class performers over both the Sprint and Distance courses.

This year’s finals take place in South Australia; however, the Victorian heats commence here on 8 August 2024.

It is also a time when many yearly friendships are re-kindled as the greyhound fraternity from each state assembly for almost a week of conferences, socialising and of course outstanding greyhound racing.

Race 9 – 18 November 2023 – Shootout winner – Big Energy

Saturday 17 November 2024

Ever since race caller Ron Hawkswell said “bang racing in the shootout” back in 1998 it’s been a very interesting race. It’s fair to say the Shootout was the first of its kind in concept and Sandown as usual becoming a trend setter for different racing.

Invented by Sandown Director Bob Smith with the entry fee race winner takes all concept, the race got off to a rocky start with not everyone getting on board. However, today it’s a very different story and purist from all forms of racing get on board for the big night.

It has been won some top-class speedsters. 2009 Velocette, 2011 Bekim Bale, 2013 Xylia Allen, 2018 Aston Dee Bee, 2019 Hooked on Scotch, 2021 Aston Rupee and the Greenough’s in 2022 and 23 with Woe She’s Fast and Big Energy.
