This 515m showcase is the most prestigious race on the calendar, with owners and trainers aspiring to compete for the Holy Grail of greyhound racing – the Group 1 Sportsbet Melbourne Cup, otherwise known as “The World’s Greatest Greyhound Race”.
The Launching Pad series at Sandown Park is a premier slot-style race for young and upcoming greyhounds with a $400,000 final. The event features heats, semi-finals, and a high-stakes final, often including consolation races for those who miss the final.

The 2026 Group 1 Sportsbet Sandown Cup Winner – Ayden’s Warrior (Jason Thompson)
The Sportsbet Sandown Cup has steadfastly gained a reputation for the world’s premier greyhound distance race (715m). First run in 1964, the Woolamai Cup (as it was known then) was won by Briar View. The Sandown Cup attracts a huge crowd as trainers and owners compete for the Club’s namesake trophy.
The Group 3 Shootout at Sandown Park is an elite four-dog invitation race for the fastest greyhounds, held in November. It’s a key feature of the Dream Chasers Festival, part of a massive night featuring the G2 Laurels and Melbourne Cup preludes.

The 2025 Group 3 Shootout Winner – Colac Kid (Jason Sharp)
The 2026 Group 1 Sportsbet Harrison Dawson Winner – Dewana Star (Brendan Dewan).
The Group 1 Sportsbet Harrison-Dawson is named in honour of three of Sandown Park’s finest servants: Henry Harrison who served as Sandown Chairman for 23 years, his daughter and life member Loretta, and son-in-law and previous Sandown GRC Chairman Geoff Dawson. Since 2012, the race has been restricted to male greyhounds only, and it became a Group 1 event in 2015.
The Sapphire Classic was first run in 1974 as an age restricted race for dogs and bitches. The event was relaunched in 2002 as the Sapphire Crown Classic a feature for bitches only, and these days, typically attracts the best female greyhounds from around the country.

The 2025 Group 1 Sportsbet Bold Trease Winner – Without A Trace (Peter Presutto)
The Group 1 Sportsbet Bold Trease is run over 715m on Melbourne Cup Night every year. The race is named after Bold Trease, one of the greatest ever greyhounds to race, and these days, some of the best stayers in the land are listed on the Sportsbet Bold Trease Honour Roll.
Toongabbie Lodge is an all purpose greyhound facility built by the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club for rearing, whelping, education and adoption at the highest animal welfare standards. It caters for the full lifecycle of a greyhound.
